Oh my, a whole DAY without blogging. The horror, the horror.

Lets start off with a rant shall we.?

On the 15th of April 2006, two men were swept over the Ramboda Falls in Sri Lanka. I find this worthy of comment, because I would like to extend to them a heartfelt "Thank you" for getting out of the gene pool.

This is the time of the monsoon, and the Ramboda Falls are in full spate. Unfortunately, it is also very popular, and lies on the Kandy - Nuwara Eliya road. For those of you who do not know what I am talking about, the "Nuwara Eliya Season" is a high point in Sri Lankan social life. During the New Year holidays, people leave the hot humidity of Colombo, and go to Nuwara Eliya which, by virtue of being up in the mountains, has a much cooler climate. During the season Nuwara Eliya is overpriced and overcrowded, full of people desperate to enjoy themselves no matter how painful it is.

Ramboda Falls is a beautiful place. A double fall, one smaller one above the road and a much larger one below it. People have stopped to bathe at the upper fall for a long time. But one would expect people to NOT be so stupid as to try and bathe in it when the water is brown from all the runoff and there have been severe storms on the upper reaches that give the falls its water

But people will continue to be stupid. Like the kind of people who receive Darwin Awards, there are many idiots/morons/complete fucking STUPIDheads who would INSIST on bathing there.

The cops did a good job of chasing them off, but they can't be everywhere. So two more people check out of the gene pool, and thank you very much for doing so. I hope you didn't have any kids

it simply amazes me that people can be so fucking stupid. I mean SERIOUSLY. I know people who free climb, BASE jump, and swim with sharks. But they are people who actually understand the risks and do whatever they can to mitigate them. They are not so arrogant to think that they can withstand a waterfall in full spate.

It takes a special kind of stupidity to do what these guys did, and that kind of stupidity should be rewarded. I am glad it was.
