Well its done. Last week we finished the last of the school runs, had a massive conference, and went white water rafting.

its been a good run with the schools project, got to travel around, meet people.. teach them about Linux and maybe helped mould a few lives. Pardon me for getting maudlin' but i guess that is the only true immortality.. the ability to make a change in someone's life. Whether the changes are for the better or worse doesn't really matter. What DOES matter is that those changes and the knock-on effects are what will carry your name forever.

Then there was the GeekOut. 30 something geeks, most of whom should never be allowed outside unsupervised, decided to go white water rafting. That was, to say the least, interesting. We drove upstream 7KM and then rafted down. 5 rapids with names like "killer falls" and "virgin's breast" and other weirdness. Then we jumped from a rock into the lower end of the rapids, and finally floated downstream about a kilometer.

And they made us row almost all the way. OUCH!! That fucking hurt. I discovered muscles i didn't know existed. But I got a massage by Danese Cooper, the Diva of open source, the den mother to the OS geeks, and in her own words "Wendy to the Lost Boys". And the next day the parts she massaged were the only ones that didn't hurt.

GeekOut was the culmination of FOSSSL '06, the Sri Lankan Open Source Software event. We had one last year, and having one this year as well felt good (even though i missed it because of the schools project)

We had some interesting people show up, Ken Coar, Rich Bowen, Russ Nelson, Dave Recordon (19 years old and he was hunted down by Verisign to work for them - poor bugger), and of course Danese Cooper (as i mentioned above).. We had an interesting (to say the least) time. Much alcohol was consumed (by me), and swear words spoken (ditto), people insulted (tritto).. but i love them all.. they're my friends.

Much happened, a lot was talked about, and there are people who write about such things better than I can. So lets talk about some highlights

• Jumping off a rock into the rapids
• me and Rajkumar and another guy killing a bottle of arrack until the wee hours of the morning, shirts off and talking
• going hiking up to bellie lena, where there is a temple and stuff
• bathing at the waterfall there
• the leech who bit my ass making me leave huge bloodstains on my shorts

It was just fun. i loved it. i wanna do it again
